British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a joint strike against an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK's MoD.

The site, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.

"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a several access tunnels leading to the depot... early reports are that the strike was effective," the ministry announced.

There was no evidence of any civilian impact in the strike conducted Saturday night and each participating jet returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.

The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.

Daesh - alternatively referred to as ISIS - enforced jihadist rule over significant areas in Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.

"This strike demonstrates the UK's leading role, and commitment to work closely with our allies, to eradicate any resurgence of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief the minister stated.

RAF aircraft have carried out patrols over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of the group following its routing at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the ministry said.

"I extend gratitude to every member of British forces who took part in this strike for their skill and their courage," he commented. "They were part of thousands of British troops on duty over Christmas and New Year. This operation, to take out dangerous terrorists who endanger our safety, demonstrates how British military are prepared to act, throughout the year, protecting the UK at home and strong abroad."

Last December, the American forces executed what it called a "large-scale strike" on Daesh sites in the country, following an assault resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.

The U.N. estimates Daesh still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in Iraq and Syria.
