Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

A senior political figure stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
